Altınbaş University was founded in 2008 by the Mehmet Altınbaş Education and Culture Foundation as Istanbul Kemerburgaz University, admitted its first students in the 2011–2012 academic year and was renamed Altınbaş in 2017.
Today it offers 136 programmes from associate to PhD level through 10 faculties, the Vocational School of Health Services, the School of Foreign Languages and one graduate institute. Medicine, Pharmacy and most engineering, business and social science programmes are taught in English, and medical students receive clinical training at Altınbaş University MedicalPark Bahçelievler Hospital.
The university operates under the Council of Higher Education of Türkiye (YÖK), and its degrees are officially recognised.
