What makes up the cost of studying in Turkey?

Three parts: tuition, a dormitory or rent, and living. Tuition is the largest and most predictable part, and every figure on this page comes from the university's own official list for 2026–2027 (for Altınbaş, the 2025–2026 list). Figures are in USD per academic year, and tuition is paid directly to the university.

Medical fields at Istanbul's private universities

English-medium medicine starts at 21,000 USD (Biruni); Okan 22,500, Haliç and Üsküdar 24,000, Aydın and Altınbaş 25,000, Bahçeşehir 28,000, İstinye 29,000, Yeditepe 30,000 (after a 25% scholarship), Acıbadem 36,000 and Medipol 40,000 USD.

How much cheaper is a state university?

Turkish state universities charge international students tuition, but less than private ones. Official 2025–2026 examples:

The main difference is admission: state universities admit through the TR-YÖS or SAT exam with small quotas, and their applications usually close in June–July; private universities admit on the diploma and grades, until September. Full comparison in the state vs private universities guide.

Dormitories and living in Istanbul

• University dormitories at official 2026–2027 prices: Altınbaş quad room 4,000 USD a year, double 4,300–5,800 USD, single 9,000 USD; Acıbadem dormitories from 312,000 TL a year. Full list on the dormitories page.
• Renting a flat varies a lot by district and number of flatmates and has no official price; ask us on WhatsApp.
• Living costs are in lira and move with the exchange rate; use the current rate when you budget.

One-off and extra costs

• A language preparatory year (English or Turkish) if you have no certificate; each university announces its own price.
• Student residence permit and health insurance: yearly.
• Application cost: applying through Taktik is free and tuition goes directly to the university's account.
